Pre Marriage Counselling Course

A pre wedding course for committed, clever heterosexual and same-sex couples - helping you future-proof your relationship.

What makes a marriage work?

Let’s be real, you’ve thought about this at least once (ok, twice) which is totally normal because what person doesn’t want a long-lasting, fulfilling and blissful life with their partner?

The fact is, so much thought, energy and planning go into the actual wedding - but it’s equally important to give your marriage the same level of consideration to be sure you’ve set a solid foundation as you enter the next stage of your relationship.

This is where a Pre Marriage Counselling course comes in.

The purpose of Pre Marriage Counselling is to create a safe space for you and your partner to talk, as well as establish a partnership where you both feel seen, honoured and valued. It’s a bonding experience that not only develops better understanding, but enables you to listen, support and negotiate with each other in a positive and productive way. There’s always room to learn more about ourselves and our partners and doing a pre wedding course shows a willingness to improve, develop and commit to each other.

As a relationship specialist trained in couples therapy, I offer a customised Pre Marriage Counselling course that helps you build a solid foundation for a powerful, fulfilling and intimate life-long relationship together.

Why Pre Marriage Counselling?

The pre-wedding phase can often feel like love, romance and serotonin are flowing like expensive champagne. But it’s also a stressful and testing time for many. A Pre Marriage Counselling course can help to navigate some of these stresses, ease anxiety and ensure you as a couple are both feeling calm and confident on your special day.

Even if you’re thinking, “but we’re so in love! We never argue. Won’t counselling before the wedding only create problems that aren’t there?”... I get it.

It’s totally natural to worry that opening up sensitive conversations will sour the happy engagement period. But rest assured, sorting out the big questions about what a committed life together will look like can lead to some of the most intimate moments - bringing you even closer during this exciting time. Neat, huh?

In fact, using counselling when a relationship is feeling good is actually the best thing you can do to future-proof it. When you’re feeling strong and secure as a couple, there’s a higher tolerance and capacity to explore any ‘niggles’ or challenges - without this leading to doubt or anxiety within the relationship. It’s an opportunity to confidently approach delicate topics together (money, children, intimacy... oh & the in-laws) and prepare yourselves for anything life may throw at you.

What happens in Pre Marriage Counselling?

I offer a 30-minute, complimentary Intro Chat where you can get a feel for me before committing to working on a Pre Marriage Counselling Course together… just so you can be sure I’m ‘the one’ for you

Before we kick off the pre wedding course, you’ll receive an online intake form and the Prepare-Enrich questionnaire to fill in (relax, it’s not a test). It’s actually been scientifically validated for over 35 years & helps guide our sessions together.

We discuss the results of the questionnaire, what you both as individuals would like to gain by the end of the program and map out a plan on what to cover in our 4 sessions together.

The Pre Marriage Counselling course gives you the chance to spend quality time together, chat about things you may have never explored and learn valuable skills. Why not make each session a fun ‘date night’ and grab a cheeky drink or dinner afterwards?

What I do

My goal is to make you feel safe, understood and empowered in our sessions, while also removing the potential disconnect that can occur between client and therapist. Think of me more as a trusted friend or Aunt (not your Great Aunt…a young, cool Aunt) you can confide in.

I can meet you where you’re at and hold your hand - metaphorically, of course - through these conversations you may not feel brave enough to have on your own.

Natalie’s style is very warm, inviting and comforting. There was never a time we felt pressured or uncomfortable.
— Lauren.M

I won’t tell you how to have the conversation because you’re the experts in your relationship. Instead, I’ll sit alongside you, gently guiding you to where you want to go, so you can trust I’ve got the ‘roadmap’ and I’m bringing you closer in the process.

There’s also no ‘one size fits all’ approach with me. I tailor our sessions specifically to your goals in order to bring out the best in you - so you can bring out the best in your relationship.

What I don’t do

In case I’ve caught you thinking, “but wait a sec, aren’t you going to psychoanalyse me and blame me for not pulling my weight around the house?”  Nope!

Not my style. As a trained and licensed therapist, I’m unbiased in my approach and provide a balanced service - which means both of you have equal opportunity to express your unique perspectives without me taking sides.

I also won’t judge you, tell you what you’re doing ‘wrong’, expose you, force you to be ‘vulnerable’, or worse, tell you that you shouldn’t be together. Capiche?
